Authorities zero in on Minn. shooting suspect

JORDAN, Minn. — Authorities are staked out at a residence where a man allegedly involved in a shootout with police is believed to be hiding.

David Michael Winters, 41, allegedly led police on an hours-long manhunt through several communities on Tuesday.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said the suspect may be wounded and should be considered armed, dangerous and a threat to the public. According to the Minnesota Courts website, Winters has several previous convictions including three felonies.

Winters is accused of firing shots at officers Tuesday morning, before fleeing in a green 2008 Honda Civic.

Stanek said a call was made to police around 9:45 a.m. CT about a suspicious man outside a business. Upon arrival, police found a man sitting in a vehicle in a parking lot with a handgun.

"Subsequently, shots were fired," Stanek said.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Winters allegedly fled by car and was seen entering Byerly's in St. Louis Park. Officers evacuated the Byerly's and set up a perimeter. The suspect was not found inside.

Police say Winters is about 5-foot-8 and about 190 pounds.
