Suspects remain on loose after Brinks guard shot, killed

HOUSTON — Police continue to hunt for three masked men who they say shot and killed a Brinks security guard during a robbery near Houston's Galleria on Thursday.

A caller reported hearing several shots fired just after 2 p.m. at a Capital One Bank in west Houston.

Katie Reed said her mother was the guard's partner, a messenger whose role is to deliver money. Reed said her mother was inside the truck when shots were fired. She pulled her gun and shot at the robbers, but all three suspects got away in a white Ford F-250 pickup.

"I just know that he and my mom (were) close buddies," said Katie Reed, whose mom worked with the victim.r money. Police say the guard was ambushed as three masked men opened fire.

The guard who was shot died hours later at a hospital.

The getaway vehicle was found about a mile from the robbery scene. Police issued a bulletin saying the suspects may be wearing body armor and helmets.

Reed found out about the robbery during a phone call from a friend.

"I just lost my father," Reed said. "So, this is a close call for me. That's the only parent I have left."

Reed said the victim is married with children.

"(I'm) just praying for his family," Reed said. "He (had) to be a cool dude. He and my mom are close friends."
