Heatwave? Reno ties record of 70-degree temperatures

RENO, Nev. — While much of the rest of the country suffers amid subzero lows, Reno tied a temperature high record Thursday.

By reaching at least 70 for a daily high, the city tied the record for the most 70-degree or greater days in February with five days.

The National Weather Service made the announcement in a Facebook post.

The 2015 record ties those set in 1965 and 1986.

Residents shouldn't get used to the heatwave, though. A cool-down is on the way.

"A cold front will usher in a significantly colder air mass this weekend with high temperatures dropping below normal for the first time in about a month," forecasters said in a separate post.

"While not abnormal for this time of the year, it will feel much colder compared to the record warmth the area has experienced lately.

"Breezy northeast winds will make it feel even colder due to the wind chill," they added.

The city also set a record on Valentine's Day. The temperature reached 71, breaking the previous record of 69 set last year.
