Mom denies stabbing son, 4, in jailhouse interview

HOUSTON — Jenea Ann Mungia was calm and coherent as she spoke to a reporter from the Harris County jail about the brutal stabbing attack she's accused of unleashing on her 4-year-old son.

She took no responsibility for the actions police said she took Feb. 26 in the driveway of her home.

Mungia, 23, was arrested and charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury after a witness called 911 to report that a woman was outside striking the boy with an object. Deputies had to pull her off of him as she slammed his head into the concrete and stabbed him.

Mungia repeatedly shook her head each time she was asked about the horrific attack on her son, Adyen.

"He had extensive injuries, as you all know, as well as his genitals had been partially mutilated," said Harris County Prosecutor Kathy Kahle.

When asked how she felt when she heard her son survived Mungia said, "I was relieved, of course. It's a blessing."

Adyen is Mungia's only child. She said she loves him very much. She said he is a typical, active 4-year-old who "loves all sports."

During the interview, Mungia showed no signs of the enraged woman accused of viciously beating and repeatedly stabbing her little boy in their Northwest Harris County house and in the driveway — all while being naked from the waist up.

"At one point when the officers arrived and were trying to get her off of the child, she said, 'Just shoot me,'" Kahle said. "She also told another witness at the scene that she had just killed her child."

When Williams asked Mungia if she regrets anything, she said, "Of course, look where I am." She also said, "I should be with my son right now."

Her attorney, Eric Davis said Mungia suffers from post-postpartum psychosis, even though she gave birth more than four years ago.

Mungia said she is married to her little boy's father but she has no idea where he is and she has not seen him in a long time.

As the interview was ending, Mungia said, "Please tell my son I love him."

The child remains hospitalized with family members by his side.
