Police shoot, kill dog to save owner
CINCINNATI — Delhi Township, Ohio, authorities shot and killed a dog Sunday night to save its owner's life, officials said.
Police entered a residence in the 800 block of Gilcrest Lane and found a family dog attacking a 27-year-old woman on the kitchen floor, according to an alert from the Delhi Township Police Department.
The officer fired two shots, the release states. Both struck the dog, but it continued to attack its owner Cathy Doyle, police said.
The officer fired another shot, it struck the dog and it fled toward the basement where it died.
Police said it appeared the dog became agitated when Doyle tried to separate it from another family pet it was fighting with.
When Doyle was attacked, the other dog retreated into a bedroom of the home, police said.
Doyle was taken to the hospital and was still there Monday. A family friend told police she underwent surgery on her forearm and received numerous stitches.
Two children and another adult were home when the incident happened, but no one else was hurt, police said. The breeds of the dogs were not specified.
