Obama roots for niece at Princeton hoops game
WASHINGTON — President Obama brought some White House mojo to his niece's basketball game Saturday, helping root the Princeton Tigers to a victory in the NCAA women's college basketball tournament.
Princeton students who watched the Tigers beat Wisconsin-Green Bay 80-70 in the game at College Park, Md., returned the favor at one point by chanting in Obama's direction "Four More Years! Four More Years!"
Obama indicated objections to that idea by drawing his hand across his neck. Besides, the Constitution limits presidents to two terms.
A few members of the crowd appeared to boo the president, while others chanted "U-S-A! U-S-A!"
The president took the short ride from the White House to the University of Maryland basketball arena to root on Leslie Robinson, the daughter of brother-in-law Craig Robinson. A freshman, Leslie Robinson did not get to play.
Surrounded by orange-clad Princeton fans, the brown-sweater-clad Obama could be seen conferring frequently with Craig Robinson, a former Princeton player who later coached at Brown and Oregon State.
First lady Michelle Obama, Robinson's sister, also attended Princeton.
With the win over Green Bay, Princeton improved its record to 31-0. It remains one of only two undefeated teams in major college basketball. The other: the University of Kentucky men's team.
Princeton's next game figures to be tougher, however. The Tigers will play Maryland — one of the overall tournament favorites — on their home court.
