Police: Woman lied about being robbed of wedding ring

DETROIT — Diamonds might be forever, but allegedly lying about getting your wedding ring stolen can only go on for so long.

A 45-year-old woman lied about getting mugged outside a Kroger in St. Clair Shores, Mich., last week, police said Tuesday.

The woman, Kelly Parsons, now faces a false report charge, a felony carrying a possible four-year prison sentence and $2,000 fine, said St. Clair Shores Police Sgt. Thomas Saville.

At Parsons' Tuesday arraignment, bail was set as a $10,000 personal bond.

Parsons told police that a man hit her in the head and then stole her wedding ring while she was in the parking lot of Kroger on Saturday, Saville said.

During the investigation, police determined that the story was false, he said.

Parsons could not be reached for comment, and Saville could not say why Parsons would have made up the story.
