Guard injured in FedEx shooting heads home

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Nearly one year after being shot while on duty as a security guard at a Kennesaw FedEx Ground facility, Christopher Sparkman is back home.
On April 29, 2014, Sparkman, 29, was shot at point-blank range in the abdomen when Geddy Kramer, a 19-year-old package handler, opened fire at the FedEx facility where he worked. Kramer went on to wound five more people before killing himself.
Sparkman has undergone more than 30 surgeries since the shooting. He was initially released from the hospital last August, but returned for an extensive stay in February because of more complications.
On Sunday, Sparkman's wife, Jamie Lynn, posted this update:
February 16, 2015 - April 26, 2015. We're finally home. After one more year of bowel rest, clear liquids, and woundcare at home, doctors will try again. So we're not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace..." 2 Corinthians 4:16
Sparkman still faces a long road to complete recovery. Doctors must wait a year before attempting to patch a leak in his colon. During that year, Christopher must care for his wound at home.
The ordeal has put on a strain on the Sparkmans, both physically and financially. Jamie Lynn Sparkman quit her job to care for her husband and has spoken publicly of the need for money. Chick-fil-A has scheduled a fundraiser for the couple on Wednesday — the one-year anniversary of the shooting. Click here for more details.
