Friends act to help family of man found dead
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Police on Sunday found the body of a Rochester man who friends had been looking for since he went out for a run at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Police have released few details about the discovery in a grassy yard on Yarmouth Street, including the name of the person found or a cause of death.
Earlier in the day, friends of Gabriel "Gabe" Stolt, 26, were posting on Facebook and other social sites in an effort to find him.
Sara Stevens, a friend and co-worker of Stolt's, said family and friends on Saturday searched Ellison Park, where Stolt sometimes jogged, and handed out fliers around the locations Stolt was known to frequent.
"Apparently he just couldn't sleep yesterday morning and he went to go out for a run," Stevens said. "We're just very worried about his wife and their daughter on the way.
"His daughter will be born in late June. He was so excited."
After Stolt was found, Stevens set up a fundraising page on gofundme.com and explained the disappearance and discovery:
"Gabriel Stolt went for a run at 7:00 in the morning on Saturday, May 16th, and wasn't heard from again," the site reads. "On Sunday, May 17th, his body was found.
"We are still uncertain of what happened but are hoping to raise money for funeral expenses. Gabe leaves behind a wife, and an unborn child who can use all of our help and support at this time.
"Some of you may know Gabe from his many jobs, like The Drs Inn, The Firehouse Saloon, Lovin' Cup, or Applebees. Keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers."
Stevens said Stolt graduated from Victor High School and enjoyed exercising and working his various jobs.
"He worked like a maniac, he worked doubles almost everyday," Stevens said. "He was a very determined person."
More than $5.600 had been raised by 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
