Fire crews working hazmat incident near Indy Speedway

INDIANAPOLIS — Multiple fire crews are on the scene of a hazmat incident on the Westside near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Smoke filled the neighborhood adjacent to Leed Thermal Processing plant that caught fire Thursday night in the 1600 block of Luett Avenue, just blocks away from the speedway.

Fifteen fire crews from the Indianapolis Fire Department, Speedway Fire Department and the Wayne Township Fire Department battled the blaze, a tweet from the IFD's Twitter account reported.

An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer advised an Indianapolis Star reporter to leave the area.

"This stuff is poisonous," he said.

No injuries have been reported.
