Police: 4 hurt when gun goes off at NYC's Waldorf Astoria

NEW YORK -- Police arrested two men after one of the men's gun went off, injuring four people during a wedding at the storied Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Park Avenue in midtown Manhattan.

Vladimir Gotlibovsky, 42, faced charges of reckless endangerment and assault after a gun in his pocket allegedly went off. He's also accused of tampering with evidence. Felix Gotlibovsky, 51, faced charges of weapons possession and evidence tampering.

Authorities say the Brooklyn men – it's not clear if they're related – were at the hotel Saturday night as a wedding was taking place when the 9mm Ruger in Vladimir's pocket discharged and hit the floor. Police say they don't know why.

The four people hit by bullet shrapnel and flying debris were treated and released at a hospital: a 55-year-old woman whose forehead was grazed; a 59-year-old man whose right leg was hit; and a 45-year-old woman and a 37-year-old woman, both of whom were hit in both legs.

The weapon was recovered from a different location, police said.

Because the Waldorf Astoria occupies an entire city block, it's prized for its safety by government security services. The president and other heads of state often stay there during the United Nations General Assembly.
