Police: 4 boys to be charged in Oregon stadium fire
EUGENE, Ore. — Four boys will be charged with starting a fire that burned down historic Civic Stadium in Eugene on Monday, according to Eugene police.
Eugene Police arson investigators received a tip Wednesday that led to identifying the four boys, police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin said.
The incident was not fireworks-related, police said.
The four boys are 10 to 12 years old. Police said the names of the boys will not be released because they are minors.
The specific charges the boys face were not immediately announced. McLaughlin said more information about the charges will be announced at a news conference Thursday.
Eugene fire and police officials said Tuesday that three or four young people had been seen in the stadium press box shortly before the fire started.
The stadium was approved by voters in 1938 during the Great Depression and opened that same year.
The Eugene Civic Alliance recently bought the property and co-founder Derek Johnson says the group has a $3 million insurance policy on the grandstand.
