ATLANTA — Police in Atlanta are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl who was traveling on a bus with her mother from South Carolina.
Two women saw 19-year-old Alexis Washington holding her baby and crying on the Peters Street bridge at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Washington and her daughter were traveling by Greyhound bus to New Orleans when the bus made a scheduled stop in Atlanta.
Washington told the women her child was "cold," said Atlanta Police Capt. Terrell Griffin. One of the women called police after speaking with Washington.
The child was pronounced dead at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Griffin said Washington is not considered a suspect at this time.
