SUWANEE, Ga. — Four people are dead, including the gunman and two children younger than 10, in a domestic-related shooting at a home in suburban Atlanta, officials said Wednesday.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook that when officers arrived, they found five individuals with gunshot wounds.

"An adult male, who is believe to be the alleged shooter, was located deceased on scene," the post said.

The shooter was known to officers from previous arrests for minor crimes, but Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper would not release the man's name or details of his previous run-ins with the law. He said the victims and the shooter all lived at the house.

"We'd like to find a motive," Piper said. "There's no reason that any of us are ever going to understand to wipe an entire family. We have absolutely no clue at this point what precipitated it."

Authorities received a call from a concerned relative from another county about 6 a.m., after the relative received a call from someone inside the house, police said.

According to Forsyth County officials, the shooter called his mother in Dawson County, Ga., and told her he had shot four people and was going to kill himself.

By the time deputies got to the scene, they found three people dead inside the home, two children under the age of 10 and the shooter, an adult male.

An adult male and adult female were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, the sheriff's office said. The woman later died of her injuries, officials said.

The man is in critical condition at a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, Piper said.

Piper didn't release names but said it appeared all the victims lived at the home — a white, single-story, ranch-style house that contrasts with the expansive residences surrounding it.

The area of the shooting, on Old Atlanta Road, includes some of metro Atlanta's most exclusive neighborhoods. The road winds past golf course communities in a heavily wooded area.

The house is a few yards from the entrance to the Olde Atlanta Club, a golf course community along the Chattahoochee River, and just north of the St. Marlo Country Club, where homes surround another golf course.
