Death at Fla. Confederate monument ruled a homicide
PENSACOLA, Fla. — Police have determined that the death of a man whose body was found at the Confederate Monument in downtown Pensacola was a homicide.
A passerby discovered the body on a bench at the foot of the monument in Lee Square on Sunday morning.
Detectives have determined the death was not racially motivated, said Capt. Paul Kelly.
Kelly said detectives are pursing leads in the case, and an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.
The man's name is not yet being released pending family notification.
Officers spent several hours at the scene Sunday, collecting evidence and interviewing neighbors.
