TAMPA — Three people were shot early Monday morning at a Tampa nightclub, police said.

The victims were shot while on the dance floor at Club Viva about 2 a.m. Monday. About 500 people were inside the club when the shooting happened, police estimate.

Police are trying to figure out how someone was able to get a gun inside Club Viva as there are armed and unarmed security guards inside. Five to seven rounds were fired into the crowd.

The three men who were shot were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK. Police said the injuries are not life-threatening.

The club is about 7 miles east of Tampa International Airport.

Police have not released a description of a suspect at this time.
