Family treks from the Arctic Circle to see the pope

Melinda Peter, 39, traveled with her 6-year-old daughter from eight miles above the Arctic Circle to hold up a sign on the Capitol lawn proclaiming "Alaskan natives (heart) Pope Francis. "

"We're Episcopal but we like this pope because we know he's for indigenous people," she said.

Peter said she's hoping Francis can help make change, especially on reducing the threat of global warning.

"We just really, really like this pope," said Peter, health director for the Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments.
