UNC Chapel Hill issues 'all clear' after lockdown


The University of North Carolina at Chapel issued "all clear" Wednesday, lifting a lockdown ordered after police reported an "armed and dangerous person" on or near campus, according to UNC Public Safety.

The school had activated an emergency siren and called on students and staff to go inside and to close windows and doors.

Police, with weapons drawn, had converged on an area near the school's ROTC Armory following the unconfirmed report of an possible gunman in the area.

Photos posted on Twitter showed police activity on the streets before the lockdown was lifted.
