Picture this: The week's top stories in charts
It’s been quite a week in the world of news. Here are five charts that put the week’s happenings into perspective:
1: In a much-hyped interview with Fox News host Megyn Kelly — after nearly a year of slamming her — Donald Trump acknowledged his attacks, but stopped short of apologizing. And he doesn’t think his retweet of someone calling Kelly a “bimbo” was that bad — he says she's probably “been called a lot worse.”
2: An Amtrak engineer caused a fatal 2015 crash in Philadelphia after careening around a curve at twice the posted speed, likely because he was distracted by radio chatter, federal crash investigators ruled Tuesday.
3: Egyptian tourism, already hit hard by unrest and terrorism, suffered another blow when an EgyptAir jet crashed in the Mediterranean, killing 66 people. The day after the crash, debris, luggage and body parts were found, officials said.
4: Iconic CBS News and "60 Minutes" anchor Morley Safer died on Thursday, just a week after retiring. Safer was credited with shining a light on American action in Vietnam before moving to the super-successful TV newsmagazine.
5: The U.S. Department of Labor raised the threshold at which most employees are exempt from overtime pay to $47,476 from the current $23,660. That’s expected to make 4.2 million additional workers eligible to receive time-and-a-half wages for each hour they put in beyond 40 a week.
