Escaped Florida murder suspect armed, has help
Investigators say a Florida murder suspect who slipped his shackles in a courtroom Friday is armed and has help.
Dayonte Resiles, 21, bolted from a fourth-floor courtroom and slipped out of his jail jumpsuit on the way out an unlocked door.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Saturday that detectives have information that indicates Resiles has a weapon and is getting assistance.
“We will leave no stone unturned, we will do everything we can to bring him back into custody safely, quickly and efficiently," Israel said.
Friday’s hearing was to decide whether Resiles will face the death penalty for the September 2014 killing of Jill Halliburton Su, grand-niece of Halliburton Co. founder Erie P. Halliburton.
Police found the 59-year-old woman stabbed and bound in her bathtub in Davie, Fla., after an apparent burglary.
Resiles was a serial burglar, according to police and has pending charges for home break-ins in Plantation, Miramar and Oakland Park, the Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
On Saturday, the Broward Crime Stoppers increased a reward to $20,000 for information that leads to Resiles’ capture.
Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said the department is “devoting all necessary resources to the manhunt” and urged anyone with information to call 911.
