Layla Shaikley shares how she created the now popular “Mipster” culture in the US. This is from a series of short films called @SecretlifeofMuslims, created by filmmaker Joshua Seftel.

Layla Shaikley grew up obsessing over skate board culture in a self-described “girl power” family. As a hijabi she felt ignored and misrepresented in pop culture, so she decided to make her own.
Using fashion and art Layla created a music video set to Jay Z’s “Somewhere in America” that popularized “Mipster” culture in the US.
