Amish buggy crash: 2 children dead, multiple injuries after truck crashes into buggy


Two children, ages 6 and 2, were killed and two other children and a woman were seriously injured when their horse-drawn buggy was struck by a pickup truck around 6 p.m. on Friday in Michigan.

Michigan State Police at Marshall reported the crash happened in Algansee Township, which is part of Branch County.

Troopers said the southbound pickup struck the Amish buggy in the rear and two adults and five children inside the buggy were ejected.

The two children were pronounced dead at the scene. Another child, 4, suffered life-threatening injuries and fourth child, 3, and the woman suffered serious injuries. The injured were taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. and Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The driver of the truck was arrested.

Troopers said the investigation of the crash remains ongoing and other information was not released. They were assisted at the scene of the crash by Quincy Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, AirCare and Samaritan Air medical helicopters.
