8-week-old kitten severely injured after being thrown from moving car in New York
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Sheriff's deputies are searching for the person who threw a kitten from a moving car in upstate New York on Saturday night.
Genesee County sheriff's deputies said the 8-week-old kitten was reportedly thrown out of the window of a red car moving down State Route 98 at around 9 p.m. Saturday in Batavia, a city 40 minutes southwest of Rochester.
The kitten, a female domestic short hair brown tiger, suffered severe injuries including severe head trauma and chest contusions and two broken legs, which were not operable, said Ann Marie Brade, a dog control officer for the sheriff's office.
"Combined with the head and chest trauma, the veterinarian made the decision to euthanize" the kitten, Brade said.
Deputies were still seeking anyone with information about the incident or the car involved.
Last week, in Minnesota, a cat was left sick, concussed and temporarily blind after a trip in a washing machine spin cycle, needing the help of an oxygen machine to breathe.
The cat's owner forgot to close the door to the washing machine while folding clothes. The 1-year-old tabby kitty, Felix, was reportedly found with bruises on his body.
In February, a cat frozen in chunks of snow was brought into a Montana animal hospital. Unresponsive with a temperature under 90 degrees, the cat survived after use of warm water and lots of blow dryers and towels.
