No criminal charges against LA cop who shot unarmed man, parents in Costco: Grand jury

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - A criminal grand jury decided no criminal charges should be filed in the case of an off-duty LAPD officer who fatally shot a man during a confrontation at the Costco in Corona in June, Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said Wednesday.
The announcement comes more than three months after 32-year-old Kenneth French died.
French's parents, Russell and Paola French, were also wounded and spent several weeks in the hospital.
After recovering, the parents called on the off-duty officer to be criminally charged.
Salvador Sanchez, a Los Angeles police officer, says he opened fire because Kenneth French attacked him.
Family attorney Dale Galipo acknowledged French pushed the officer, but said it wasn't an attack.
Galipo said at a news conference that the parents shouted at Sanchez that their son was not a threat.
