Two yachts worth more than $20 million destroyed in Florida marina fire

Two yachts worth up to $24 million were destroyed in a South Florida blaze early Saturday.
About 100 firefighters battled the flames for about four hours at Universal Marine Center in Fort Lauderdale, but the two vessels were lost to the fire, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said.
One of the yachts, a 161-foot vessel named Lohengrin, was worth $12 million to $16 million. The other, 107 feet and named Reflections, was worth $6 million to $8 million, Fire Rescue said.
The fire started in one of the vessels, then winds spread it to the other, Fort Lauderdale Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan told news outlets. One of the yachts was under renovation, he said.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue tweeted photos from the scene Sunday that showed the scorched yachts. Crews extinguished hot spots and removed scaffolding from the construction.

Gollan said investigators were looking into witness reports of explosions being heard. An investigation and salvage effort was to begin once the hot spots were put out, fire rescuers said.
