Gunman kills 2 in Phoenix after opening fire in parking lot; 2 officers injured in shootout
PHOENIX — Investigators were looking to search a motel room Monday where a suspect had left just before opening fire, killing two people and injuring five others, including two police officers.
The suspect, who died, was armed with a semiautomatic rifle and wore tactical gear, police said.
Surveillance footage from businesses in the area show the man leaving a motel room and beginning to shoot around 8:30 p.m., according a statement Monday morning from police. The man fired into the motel and at a car that was pulling into the parking lot.
The shooting happened in north-central Phoenix.

2 officers injured
One officer was shot in the shoulder and another officer was hit by shrapnel in his face and other places, according to police.
The officer who was shot was able to get out of his car and return fire, according to police. He was then taken away by other officers for medical treatment.
Who are the victims?
A man and a woman were inside a car when they were shot. They died on the scene, police said. Their identities hadn't been released as of Monday morning.
Three men who were injured were taken to hospitals and have been released.
Who is the suspect?
The suspect has not been identified. Surveillance video shows the man walking through a parking lot and falling to the ground. Police said it appears he took his own life. The Maricopa County medical examiner will determine his manner of death.
Police said the suspect was found with a rifle, several rifle magazines, incendiary devices, gas mask and helmet nearby.
He was also seen throwing a Molotov cocktail, which didn't ignite, at a restaurant window. Around that time, officers arrived at the scene.
