Hiker dies after falling off New Hampshire mountain while taking pictures with wife, officials say
A man hiking with his wife in New Hampshire died Saturday after falling 300 feet off a mountain, officials said.
The couple were hiking Mount Willard in Crawford Notch late Saturday morning, the New Hampshire Fish and Game said in a statement. The couple began to take photos when they reached the summit of the mountain, but the hiker's wife "heard her husband yell" and noticed he was falling off the edge of the mountain, officials said.
The wife called 911 at about 10:30 a.m.Officials did not release the name of the hiker.
Mountain Rescue Service technicians who arrived on the scene had to navigate icy conditions to reach the hiker. Rescue officials were able to rappel down the face of the cliff about three hours later, where they found the hiker dead about 300 feet below the summit. It took hours to move the body from the cliff to the trailhead parking lot, officials said.

With an elevation about 2,865 feet, Mount Willard is considered a short and rewarding hike that is a "prime destination for inexperienced, new, or even seasoned hikers," according to the outdoor website Hiking & Fishing.
