Arkansas suspects appear in court after child’s body found buried inside home

An Arkansas woman and man have been arrested after authorities discovered the possibly months-old body of a 6-year-old boy beneath the floorboards of his home last week.

Ashely Rolland, 28, and Nathan Bridges, 33, appeared in court Monday, New Channel 3 reported, where they were ordered to be held without bond.

The pair are charged with capital murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and endangering the welfare of a minor. Rolland's St. Francis County jail booking image, taken Monday morning, pictured her with two black eyes.

Rolland's 6-year-old daughter was also found in the in the Lee county home, about 85 miles east of Little Rock, and was transported to a hospital with what police believe were burns to her scalp. She was reported to be in stable condition, the police department said in a statement on Dec. 17.

Police say they believe the boy — whose body was discovered late Friday by deputies who contacted the Arkansas State Police — possibly died around three months ago from injuries sustained in the home. The state medical examiner will determine the manner and cause of death, police added.

Bill Sadler, the public information officer for Arkansas State Police, declined USA Today's request for comment Tuesday.
