Wynnewood refinery explosion, fire in Oklahoma Tuesday morning injures at least two

WYNNEWOOD — An explosion at a refinery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, sent at least two people to a hospital early Tuesday, according to the Garvin County Sheriff's Office.

About 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the explosion was reported at Wynnewood Refining, and within two hours, emergency crews had managed to contain the fire, Undersheriff James Richardson told The Oklahoman, a member of the Paste BN Netlwork.

Two people with burn injuries were flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment, Richardson said.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the explosion. Richardson said the company that owns the refinery was expected to provide more information late Tuesday morning.

The Oklahoman previously reported several explosions at the refinery between 2006 and 2012.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
