8-year-old boy stole car and led officers on chase in Alabama, police say


MONTGOMERY, Al. – Officers arrested an 8-year-old boy Tuesday after he allegedly stole a car and tried to elude Montgomery police.

Police and fire medics responded were called to West Fairview about 11:10 a.m. on a report of a stolen vehicle, according to a news release.

They attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of East South Boulevard and Norman Bridge Road upon spotting the stolen vehicle, police said. But the 8-year-old driver allegedly refused to stop, and police pursued him.

During the chase, there was a two-vehicle collision in the area of West Fairview Avenue and South Court Street. The crash did not cause any injuries.

The child was arrested, and police said a weapon was recovered. Charges are pending, according to the release.

No other information was immediately released by police.
