3 dead, 14 seriously injured after Greyhound bus crash in Illinois; victims identified

At least three people are dead and 14 others seriously injured after a Greyhound bus struck commercial vehicles parked on an exit ramp on Interstate 70 in Illinois, authorities said.

Illinois State Police Troop 8 units responded to a report of a crash on I-70 westbound at the Silver Lake Rest Area in Madison County at 1:54 a.m. local time Wednesday after the bus crashed into three commercial vehicles, state police said in a statement on Facebook.

“Three fatalities are confirmed and multiple others were taken to a hospital with serious injuries,” police said in the statement. “No one in the commercial motor vehicles were injured.”

Four of the injured were taken to the hospital by helicopter and at least 10 people were taken by ambulance, police said.

Three victims identified

On Thursday, police identified the three victims as Juan Vasquez-Rodriguez, 34, Buford Paya, 71, and Bradley Donovan, 47, Illinois police said in a news release sent to Paste BN.

Bus was traveling from Indianapolis to St. Louis

Greyhound said the bus was traveling from Indianapolis to St. Louis. Multiple passengers, including the driver, were taken to the hospital, Greyhound confirmed in a statement sent to Paste BN.

“Our primary concern is ensuring we care for our passengers and driver at this time," Greyhound said in the statement. "We are working closely with local authorities and a relief bus is on the way for passengers.”

All lanes are now open on I-70 west

State police said all the lanes on westbound I-70 are open.
