Six people are dead and three injured after a head-on collision Tuesday in Johnson County, Texas, officials say.

The Texas Department of Public Safety stated on X there was a major crash along a highway in the Nemo area, approximately 50 miles southwest of the Dallas, Fort Worth area.

According to a Wednesday release from DPS, the six people who died were all riding in one of the two cars involved in the crash. They ranged from 9 years to 64 years old.

Preliminary investigation shows that a Chevrolet Silverado truck was traveling south on U.S. 67. A Honda Odyssey van was traveling north on the same road, where the posted speed limit is 70 mph. DPS investigators believe the truck entered the northbound lane in a no-passing zone and struck the van in a head-on collision.

One passenger in the van lived and was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, according to the release. The two people in the truck also sustained critical injuries and were hospitalized, DPS said.
