Mom accused of shooting 15-year-old daughter at Florida McDonald's after argument: Police
The woman is accused of shooting her 15-year-old daughter after getting into an argument with her and her two cousins at a McDonald's in Miami.
A Florida mother is accused of shooting her teenage daughter at a McDonald's following a verbal altercation, according to police.
The 32-year-old woman, who contends the gun was fired unintentionally, is charged with four counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor counts of battery and culpable negligence to inflict injury, Miami-Dade County court records show.
Miami-Dade police officers responded to the McDonalds at 9250 NW 7th Avenue in Miami just after 10 p.m., according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Paste BN. The shooting occurred after the woman got into a verbal back-and-forth with her 15-year-old daughter and her two girl cousins, the court document reads.
Paste BN contacted the woman's attorney with the Miami-Dade County Public Defender's Office on Monday but has not received a response. Paste BN is not naming the woman to preserve the identity of the teen.
What did the mother allegedly do?
One of the victims told police the argument began when one of the cousins pointed toward the door, which was in the direction of the mother, who thought she was being pointed at, according to the affidavit. The argument moved outside of the McDonald's as the girls got into a Lyft they ordered, the legal document continued.
At some point during the argument, the mother grabbed a gun from her car, began banging on the Lyft vehicle's window and made verbal threats to "shoot and kill" her daughter and her two cousins, the affidavit reads.
While pointing the gun in the direction of the Lyft, which was driving away, the weapon fired and struck her daughter in the left shoulder, according to the affidavit. The mother told police the gun was on her waistband and it went off when she “accidentally fell," the court document continued.
Surveillance video shows mother holding gun
Police watched surveillance and phone video of the incident and it showed the woman holding a gun in her hand while knocking on the rear passenger window of the Lyft, the affidavit reads.
The Lyft driver told police that the mother reached into his vehicle and physically assaulted one of the cousins, according to the affidavit. She also pointed the gun at him and the passengers in an "extremely aggressive" manner, the court document continued.
Inmate records show the woman was booked on Saturday morning at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. She remained silent on Sunday in court as a judge set her bond at $22,000 and ordered her to stay away from her daughter and two cousins, WPLG reported.
