Shooting at Texas USPS facility leaves 1 dead; suspect and victim were reportedly co-workers

The suspected shooter was charged with murder, police said.

A violent incident at a Texas-based USPS facility on Monday has left one employee dead, authorities say.

Missouri City police acted on a call about a shooting at the South Houston Processing facility just before 10:00 p.m., according to a press release obtained by Paste BN.

When officers got to the scene, they checked the building and found a deceased man. They also arrested a person of interest, "matching the description provided by multiple callers," police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Derrick Lott, who has been charged with murder and is in police custody.

Suspect and victim worked together, according to reports

Missouri City police identified the victim as Kevin J. Hines. KHOU reported that both the suspect and victim were co-workers. It's unclear what caused the shooting.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Dana Carter of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Houston Division told the outlet that the agency is working with police on this case.

"Part of our partnership with [the Missouri City Police Department] is not only conduct a very thorough investigation, but make sure we protect the community at large, as well as our employees," Carter said.

Paste BN reached out to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for comment.
