Hannah Kobayashi has been found safe, her family said Wednesday.
Through a family attorney, a statement said her family was “relieved and grateful” the 30-year-old Hawaii woman is safe after missing a flight in Los Angeles in November.
“This past month has been an unimaginable ordeal for our family, and we kindly ask for privacy as we take the time to heal and process everything we have been through,” said the statement, attributed to her mother, Brandi Yee, and sister, Sydni Kobayashi. “We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us during this difficult time. Your kindness and concern have meant the world to us.”
Police concluded Kobayashi voluntarily left the U.S., crossing the border into Mexico, after days of cryptic text messages to her family that prompted sweeping searches for her in the nation’s second-largest city. Amid the searches, her father, Ryan Kobayashi, 58, died by suicide in Los Angeles.
The family statement provided no additional information.
