Plane crash in Westchester County leaves 1 dead: What we know

One passenger has been confirmed dead following a small plane crash on Interstate 684 near Exit 2 in the town of Harrison, New York, according to New York State Police.

The plane crash occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday. State troopers responded to reports of a downed aircraft on the interstate. “The preliminary investigation has determined there were two individuals on the plane, and one is confirmed deceased,” police said Thursday night. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.

On Thursday night, I-684 stayed closed in both directions, with detours causing significant traffic delays in the areas of Armonk and White Plains. The road has since reopened.

The crash site is near Exit 2 of I-684, which is the exit for Westchester County Airport. The aircraft went down on the median of the interstate at 6:58 p.m.

The plane involved is believed to be a TECNAM P2008, a single-engine, two-seater aircraft. Scanner reports described it as a 2021 P-208 model.
