Nima Momeni found guilty of second-degree murder for killing of Cash App founder Bob Lee

IT consultant Nima Momeni was convicted by a San Francisco jury on Tuesday for the 2023 fatal stabbing of Cash App founder and cryptocurrency executive Bob Lee.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a press release obtained by Paste BN that Momeni faces between 16 years to life in prison for the second-degree murder conviction, though a sentencing date has not been confirmed.
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” Jenkins said in the statement. “I would also like to thank Mr. Lee’s family for their trust and faith in my office through this long journey to get justice."
According to multiple local media outlets reporting from inside the courtroom, including NBC Bay Area, Momeni appeared unemotional as the verdict was read. It was reached on Monday after weeks of deliberations that began on Dec. 4.
Tuesday’s conviction brought the end to a trial that has been ongoing since October. According to NBC News, Assistant District Attorney Omid Talai said in opening statements that Lee was “stabbed through his heart and left to die.”
How did Bob Lee die?
Lee was killed on April 4, 2023, near downtown San Francisco. Police responded to the area and found Lee "suffering from apparent stab wounds.” He was then transported to a nearby hospital where he later died, a statement from the district attorney's office said.
A day later, MobileCoin CEO Josh Goldbard confirmed Lee’s death to Paste BN.
"Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators," Goldbard said in a statement. "Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature... He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”
Who was Bob Lee?
Apart from his duties as the chief product officer of MobileCoin, Lee also served as the first chief technology officer of Square, where he helped create Cash App.
"Bob surely had an impact that will last far beyond his short time on earth. This may sound impressive, but Bob’s real resume is the hearts and minds he touched," Goldbard wrote. "We will miss you, Bob. We love you."
