Snow storm hits upper Midwest: See snow forecast for Wisconsin, US as warnings issued

Snow was expected to continue across parts of Wisconsin through Thursday afternoon as weather warnings remained in effect, forecasters say.

Slippery roads are expected to complicate road conditions over northeast Wisconsin, according to the National Weather Service.

The wintry weather comes as a storm moves eastward from the middle Mississippi and Ohio Valleys to the East Coast Thursday, the service reported. The storm has prompted both winter weather warnings and advisories in several Wisconsin counties including Waushara, Manitowoc, Door and Kewaunee.

The system is forecasted to bring light to moderate snow through late Friday with higher totals for some parts of the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions. Northeast wind is also expected to produce lake-enhanced snow in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan's northeastern coast.

"Use winter driving precautions and remain aware for slippery stretches and sudden changes in road conditions. Slow down and allow extra space between other vehicles," the National Weather Service warned.

Midwest, Great Plains brace for snow storms, low temperatures

Millions of Americans have begun bracing for severe winter weather this week along upper Midwest and northern Great Plains.

Temperatures within the 10 to 15 degrees below average are forecasted from the Great Lakes toward the East Coast, according to the weather service.

By Friday, light snow is expected to fall in the northern Plains and upper Mississippi Valley while light rain will develop over the southern Mid-Atlantic Coast through Saturday night, the service reported. Meanwhile light rain over the northern Mid-Atlantic Coast Friday afternoon will turn into snow along the New Jersey coast going into Saturday.

Several schools have canceled Friday classes in Wisconsin due to the snowy weather.
