Tornado warning issued for Houston metro area as severe weather threatens Texas, Louisiana
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the Houston metro area and parts of Louisiana on Thursday.
The watch was issued at around 11:30 a.m. local time and will run until at least 7 p.m. The watch comes as a storm system moves through the region. Forecasters said in their Thursday morning forecast that the environment for tornadoes would be the most favorable around noon.
“There is a threat of severe weather across all of southeast Texas today,” the forecast said.
Meteorologists said storms between noon and 5 p.m. are expected to develop in single and “discrete” supercells. These increase the probability of tornadoes and hail an inch or more in diameter.
Severe weather is not just contained to the Houston metro, other parts of Texas are also under weather warnings. The National Weather Service issued Flash Flood Warnings for the Dallas-Fort Worth metro as severe thunderstorms are rolling through the area.
