Crafty tutu-wearing monkey rescued by deputies near Missouri highway: 'Bananas situation'
Authorities in Missouri overcame a "bananas situation" last week related to a wandering spider monkey wearing ballet attire.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office started receiving reports about the monkey near a local highway on Friday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found the monkey sporting a pink tutu.
According to the agency's news release, deputies were able to get "hands-on" with the animal after "careful negotiations and some coaxing." One photo shows the deputy holding hands with the monkey.
Jefferson County, Missouri is located south of St. Louis.
Monkey escaped from nearby home
The sheriff's office learned that the crafty monkey lived with its caretaker at a nearby residence and escaped by opening a door. Deputies were able to return the monkey.
"In all seriousness, this is a great example of law enforcement officers never knowing what they’ll face on any given call, and having to be prepared to handle whatever the job throws at them," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
