A man and his dog were rescued from an icy fate in what authorities called a "dramatic" rescue by Massachusetts firefighters over the weekend.

Authorities received a 911 call about a dog that fell through the ice at Lake Waban in Wellesley, a town over 10 miles southwest of Boston on Sunday afternoon, according to the Wellesley Police Department.

The owner also fell through the ice while trying to save Tommy, the dog. According to Wellesley Police, both the man and the dog were "well offshore and unable to make it back."

Local firefighters were called into assist with the rescue and managed to pull the man and Tommy from the icy lake to safety over the course of several minutes. Video shows the firefighters pulling the man out first, guiding him slowly, before going back in for Tommy.

The owner was transported to the hospital and Tommy was transported by police cruiser to a pet clinic, where he was treated for hypothermia. Additional details about how Tommy ended up in the lake, or his owner's current condition were not immediately available.
