Want to drive the Donald J. Trump highway? Lawmakers want to rename these roads after him
There's Trump Drive in Montana, Trump Avenue in Florida, and a President Donald J. Trump Highway in Oklahoma.
Lawmakers in at least two other states are now pushing to rename roadways after the twice-elected, 78-year-old president after his inauguration on Monday.
Trump, who served as the country's 45th President from 2017-2021, was sworn into office again on Monday in Washington, D.C., naming him the 47th President of the United States.
Here is what to know about other states where legislators said they want to rename roads after the nation's newly elected president:
Arizona
In Arizona, a proposed bill aims to rename State Route 260 as the "Donald J. Trump Highway" as a tribute to his presidency.
The bill, introduced by State Sen. Wendy Rogers, R- Flagstaff, cites Trump’s achievements for the designation, including winning the 2024 presidential election popular vote and "becoming the first Republican nominee for president to do so in 20 years."
According to the Arizona Republic part of the Paste BN Network, Rogers is a confessed member of the Oath Keepers, the far-right militia group that figured prominently in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the nation’s Capitol.
Kentucky
In Kentucky, another lawmaker wants to rename part of a state route in Boone County, located on the Ohio River about 20 miles southwest of Cincinnati.
State Rep. T.J. Roberts, who represents Kentucky's 66th District, is asking colleagues to name just under 12 miles of Kentucky Route 18, also called Burlington Pike, as Donald J. Trump Highway.
Under the Republican delegate's resolution, about 12 miles of Route 18, which runs from Florence to Rabbit Hash in Boone, would be called Trump Highway, the Courier-Journal, part of the Paste BN Network, reported.
If the bill becomes law, the president will share naming rights with the late Kentucky physician Floyd Poore, a former secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and father to Kim Poore Moser, who represents the state House's 64th district.
Missouri
In 2021, Missouri Senator Mary Coleman drafted a bill to try to rename a portion of Interstate 55 from State Highway 141 south to Richardson Road in Jefferson County as the "Donald J Trump Highway."
The costs of signs designating the highway were to be paid by private donations, according to the bill.
The bill was deferred to the transportation committee, online records show.
What states have roads named after Donald Trump?
As of Friday, Trump had roads in at least three other states named after him:
- Trump Drive in Kalispell, Montana;
- Nearly two dozen miles of U.S. Route 287 in Oklahoma from Boise City to the Texas state line was named for Trump in 2021.
- The city of Hialeah, Florida, changed the name of Palm Avenue to President Donald J. Trump Avenue in 2023.
