In the same month that multiple fires devastated Los Angeles County, the Border 2 Fire sparked and set over 6,000 acres ablaze in San Diego County, prompting more evacuation orders, according to officials.

The Border 2 Fire was first discovered on Thursday afternoon in the Otay Mountain Wilderness, around 30 miles southeast of the City of San Diego, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was just 10 acres when Cal Fire made its first incident report on Thursday, but by Saturday, it grew to 6,625 acres, where its size has remained.

The fire is 40% contained as of Sunday night.

"Significant rain showers throughout the day led to a reduction of fire activity," according to Cal Fire. "With nearly a half inch of rain falling over the area, fire activity is now not expected to spread."

The cause of the Border 2 Fire is still under investigation.

Southern California has received significant rainfall, and areas affected by the following fires could see burn-scar flash floods, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Eaton- Los Angeles County
  • Palisades- Los Angeles County
  • Hurst- Los Angeles County
  • Franklin- Los Angeles County
  • Bridge- Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties
  • Hughes- Los Angeles County
