Shooting injures two during Eagles Super Bowl parade in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — Two people were shot not far from where the Philadelphia Eagles were celebrating their Super Bowl LIX victory Friday afternoon.
The shooting occurred at about 2:35 p.m., according to the Philadelphia Police Department — right around the time Eagles players, city officials and team officials began to address the throngs of fans who'd started camping out as early as Thursday afternoon to get a good spot.
Two women were shot "outside the parade footprint," police said in a news release. The shooting took place at 2300 block of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, a short distance from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Eakins Oval, where a podium was set up for speeches by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and Eagles players.
Police said the victims were a 27-year-old Hispanic woman and a 20-year-old Asian woman; both were shot in their legs and were taken to a nearby hospital. Both women were listed in stable condition, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, police added, and no weapons have been recovered or arrests have been made.
