Video captures metal object suddenly busting through school bus windshield, injuring driver

A shocking video shows the moment a random metal object flew through a Washington state school bus driver's window, hitting him in the chest.

The incident happened as Stewart O'Leary was driving at 60 mph along I-405 on Feb. 7 and a bar suddenly busted through the vehicle's window, according to a local report and Northshore School District transportation manager Sabrina Warren.

In the video, O'Leary wailed after the metal object hit him in the chest. Pieces of glass also appear to fly in his face.

"There was a certain amount of pain and I noticed as I slowed down, blood was dripping down my face [from] the glass shards," he said during an interview with local outlet King 5. "I'd take that hit all day long as long as [the students] didn't get hurt."

Warren said members of the North Creek High School girl's basketball team were on the bus when it happened.

O'Leary didn't suffer major injuries

The coaches on board jumped into action to help O'Leary guide the bus. According to the report, first responders transported him to a local hospital.

"This driver is commended for keeping control of the bus after being hit in the chest and pulling the bus safely to a stop," Warren continued. "The coaches also are to be commended for helping Stewart keep calm and make sure he got the bus stopped."

O'Leary didn't suffer severe injuries, telling King 5 that he had "a bruise and a pretty good hematoma."
