Authorities in Kentucky say a suspect fled the scene of a shooting outside a drivers license center in Louisville that left three dead, but there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Louisville Courier-Journal reported that officers were called to the scene in Southwest Louisville at noon. When they arrived, they found one man dead at the scene. Two women were also shot; they were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

No one has been identified as a suspect, but the shooter left the scene in an unknown vehicle. No arrests have been made.

Louisville Metro Police Major Donald Boeckman said investigators believe the shooting occurred outside the office.

The department posted on its X account that there was a "large police presence" outside the Drivers License Branch, which is off the Dixie Highway just north of Interstate 265. The post urged motorists to avoid the area.

"It's absolutely a tragedy and I'm surprised that there wasn't more people injured because many people were standing outside," Boeckman added, according to WHAS11 TV.

Officials will offer more details as the investigation continues, Boeckman said.
