Suspected thieves take over $250K in prescription drugs from Memphis warehouse: Police
Memphis authorities are searching for a group of people who they say stole an estimated $250,000 worth of prescription drugs from a warehouse last month.
Just before 2:15 a.m. on Feb. 16, 10 men used a portable red Milwaukee saw to cut into a rear door of Hackbarth Delivery Services in Memphis, according to local police. Once they got into the warehouse, the group took multiple red, blue and gray totes of pharmaceuticals and other products.
At around 2:51 a.m., a man and a woman who had been waiting for the group to leave walked across the street into the warehouse, police said. An alarm went off at the business and when officers arrived, they made contact with the suspects, who fled.
The larger group of suspects left and came back to the warehouse multiple times until about 6:35 a.m. that day, police said. During each trip, the suspects stole more items, and of the suspects, two wore black jackets with “Security” written in white across the front and back, police said.
According to authorities, the suspects were in five vehicles:
- A maroon SUV
- A black pickup truck (single cab)
- A gray sedan
- A black unknown SUV
- A silver coupe
Police said an inventory will determine the exact amount of drugs stolen, but it is estimated to be $250,000.
“These pharmaceuticals are not schedule one or schedule two drugs,” police said in the news release.
Authorities ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-2274.
