Magnitude 4.1 earthquake strikes near Malibu, rattles Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES − A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck near Malibu, California Sunday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The USGS placed the epicenter near the Arroyo Sequit park in the Santa Monica Mountains, just north of the coastal suburb of Los Angeles. The Survey registered a series of 3.0 or lower aftershocks closer to the ocean in the moments following the temblor.
The quake sent noticeable shaking through the West San Fernando Valley just past 1 p.m. local time. The USGS's Community Internet Intensity map for the quake registered shaking as far south as Huntington Beach and as far north as Santa Barbara.
