Infowars reporter Jamie White shot and killed in Austin, Texas, police and Alex Jones say

A reporter for far-right conspiracy theory news website Infowars was shot and killed Sunday night in Austin, Texas, police have confirmed.
Jamie White, 36, was fatally shot when he attempted to intervene with at least two suspects who were breaking into his vehicle outside his apartment, Austin police said in a news release. White was treated at the scene before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after midnight local time.
The Austin Police Department previously did not identify White as the victim of the suspected homicide when it announced the killing early Monday morning. But Alex Jones, the founder of Infowars, was quick to name the man killed as one of his reporters, claiming in a post on the website that White was "brutally murdered."
"Jamie was a light we were blessed to experience as much as we did," Infowars said in a statement on its website of White, who regularly covered President Donald Trump and major right-wing figures like Steve Bannon and Elon Musk. "He’s a one-of-a-kind man who poured his devotion in anything he did. Thank you Jamie."

The shooting was reported at 11:56 p.m. local time Sunday in a residential area of south Austin, according to police.
Leah Ratliff, a spokesperson for the police department, said at the scene that officers found an injured man with “obvious signs of trauma.” The man, now identified as White, later died at a nearby hospital.
Homicide detectives determined that at least two suspects "possibly burglarizing White's vehicle" shot him when he attempted to stop them. No other information about the suspects has been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
White's death represents the city's eighth homicide of 2025.
