A man has been indicted for the murder of 3-year-old Rylo Yancy, who was fatally shot during a birthday party in Florida last summer.
Tyler Hollins, 20, was indicted by a grand jury on March 6 for the first-degree murder of Yancy, who was fatally shot during a drive-by shooting at a park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on the evening of July 21, 2024, the Broward State Attorney’s Office confirmed.
Authorities believe Hollins had "beef" with some of the people at the birthday party where Yancy was a guest, which may have been why he participated in the shooting, Fort Lauderdale Police Department Sgt. Donald Geiger said. Yancy was on one of the park's slides when he was shot.
Hollins was already in police custody for unrelated charges at the time of his indictment, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. He was also indicted for possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
The Law Office of the Public Defender of Broward County, which is representing Hollins, did not immediately respond for a comment when contacted by Paste BN on Tuesday.
After the shooting last year, Yancy was transported to the Broward Health Medical Center with life threatening injuries, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In October, a celebration of life was held for Yancy, where Spiderman-themed decorations were hung throughout the Anthony R. Manuel Funeral Home in Hollywood, Florida.
Detectives have identified additional suspects, but are continuing to seek the public's assistance.
